Douglas County Fire District #2, serves an area of approximately 100 sq. miles. District boundaries are: South to Grant/Douglas County border, North to Turtle Rock area, East to Badger Mtn. rim and West to the river. Within the districts boundaries the Department also protects the communities of East Wenatchee and Rock Island along with mutual aid to Chelan County and City of Wenatchee. Protecting a population of 50,000+ and 30 miles of the Columbia River.

Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician

Chelan County Fire District 1, Chelan Fire and Rescue, and Douglas County Fire District 2 are establishing an eligibility list for the purpose of hiring Career Staff Firefighter/EMT positions.

The application period closed at 1700 hours on September 30, 2016.

Candidates will be notified by mail following the application review process.  Those who met the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in the Written Exam on October 21.

October 26 – Physical Agility Course Practice

Chelan County Fire District 1, 206 Easy Street, Wenatchee

Course available: 0700-0900, 1300-1500, and 1800-2000 hours

October 27-28 – Physical Agility Testing

Position Description:
Firefighter/EMT work includes responding to and dealing with emergency situations, natural conditions that pose a threat to life and property, and incidents of service to the citizens. Employees in this position are responsible for the protection of life and property through firefighting activities, emergency medical services, fire inspection activities, public education and other like duties. They perform a full range of emergency work under adverse and strenuous physical conditions. Firefighter/EMTs have a high risk of exposure to hazardous conditions, toxic chemicals and infectious diseases encountered during firefighting or emergency medical incidents. Firefighter/EMTs perform duties in the following areas: emergency firefighting operations (structural, wild land, vehicles), emergency medical operations, special rescue operations, company level fire & life safety building inspections, other fire prevention programs, public education, public relations, maintenance of apparatus, equipment and facilities, testing of fire hydrants, hose, ladders, pumps, instructing fire service and medical aid training session and other duties as directed by the Fire Chief.

Minimum Qualifications:
18 years old at time of employment
Graduation from a high school, GED or equivalent
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License
Must currently reside or work in Chelan or Douglas County
Must be able to pass the Fire District’s written test, physical agility test, background check, and medical evaluation/drug screen
Firefighter I & II, Emergency Medical Technician, Hazmat Awareness/Operations and EVIP certification required within one (1) year of employment
For Chelan Fire & Rescue: Must possess a valid WA State EMT-B certification by hire date and pass the rescue swim test as outlined in the application packet
